Congratulations to Candie Hurley and Judy Hellen for organizing the "Learn Bridge - Play Bridge - Have Fun" team for the Walk to End Alzheimer's event in Guilford County on October 25. Candie recruited a team of walkers and solicited donations. Our walkers included Jane Perrin, Peter Boyd-Bowman, Eric Lee, Marty Friedman and Kevin and Mary Haggerty. Judy worked with ACBL HQ to design a sponsor booth. And Marty Benjamin and Dixie Culver helped staff the booth. Donations from club members and friends exceeded $2,700 dollars. In fact, one of our team members, Judy Hellen, brought in donations exceeding $500 to qualify for the Champions Club!

Our presence at this event is new this year. The ACBL is now a national Alzheimer’s Association partner and we requested to have a sponsor table at this local walk. Our goals were to support the Alzheimer's Association, spread the word about how bridge is beneficial in delaying the onset of dementia, and introduce our clubs and lessons to the wider community. We did, in fact, hear people say they didn’t know about what we offer. Hopefully, we will be able to attract some new players.

It was a learning experience for all of us and a fun and meaningful day.
